Summary

Anxiety can often feel like an insurmountable obstacle, keeping us trapped in a cycle of avoidance and fear. But here's the truth: anxiety CAN be conquered with the right tools. Today we'll explore a structured approach to overcoming anxiety, from addressing avoidance behaviors to preparing for predictable stressors and upgrading your mindset. By the end you'll have the tools to transform from feeling buried by anxiety to confidently overcoming it.

Addressing Avoidance
One common response to anxiety is avoidance. We avoid tasks, situations, or responsibilities out of fear and denial. It's the belief that facing the next step will somehow be our downfall. To break free from this pattern, we must learn to address avoidance head-on.
One effective strategy is to organize your productivity using the "Four Ds" approach: Diminish, Drop, Delay, or Delegate. Identify tasks or commitments that can be minimized, eliminated, postponed, or handed off to others. This allows you to regain control over your workload and reduces the overwhelming sense of responsibility. Additionally, remember that sometimes the smallest things occupy the most significant space in our minds. Take stock of what's weighing you down emotionally and address those concerns. Confronting these issues can be liberating and reduce overall anxiety levels.

Preparation Systems
Creating systems for managing predictable issues is key to anxiety management, both in personal and professional life. Consider the concept of the "Expected Whirlwind," those recurring chaotic periods in your life, like meal preparation, email overload, standing meetings, or weekly to-do lists. Develop strategies to navigate these whirlwinds efficiently. For example, set specific time blocks for email responses, pre-plan meals for the week, or delegate tasks that don't require your direct attention. Predictable stressors become manageable when you have a structured approach in place. To identify these stressors, keep a record of when you feel the most anxiety and stress. Note the factors contributing to those situations, and recognize any repeating issues. By doing so, you can proactively address and minimize anxiety triggers.

Upgrading Your Mindset
Ready for the secret sauce that will create the biggest difference in addressing your anxiety? Make the switch from feeling "behind and buried" to a "confident overcomer". This is a mental shift that requires focus and self-compassion. The first step is to redirect your thoughts toward your competencies: Remind yourself that you are not drowning; you're merely busy. You're not performing poorly; you may have simply taken on too much. You're not a lost cause; you're scaling the cliff face of life's challenges. There is nothing inherently wrong with you; you're a high performer who sometimes struggles, not a downtrodden loser. By recognizing your strengths and acknowledging your achievements, you can change your self-perception. Cultivate self-compassion and remember that anxiety doesn't define you. You're capable of overcoming it and achieving your goals with confidence.

Overcoming anxiety is a journey that involves addressing avoidance, implementing preparation systems, and upgrading your mindset. By recognizing and confronting avoidance behaviors, planning for predictable stressors, and shifting your self-perception, you can transform from feeling overwhelmed to becoming a confident overcomer. Your path to anxiety-free living starts today!

Until next time my friends, remember you're doing better than you think and you're worth more than you know.

Best,
-Joey

hey leaders I know it's easy to get overwhelmed you've got Personnel problems work deadlines and a to-do list longer than you can count I bet it's been a long time since you've looked at your weekly planning strategy that's why I created the free weekly super psycho method training the worksheet is available right now as a download There's a link in my description it'll help you to plan your week so you can get rid of that overwhelm you feel finally get in control of the to-do list and make measurable progress towards those really important kpis the weekly super psycho method is totally free there's a link in my description right now to help you get more traction this week than you've ever had check it out alright let's talk about avoidance you know the smallest things in our lives can become the biggest causes of anxiety if we just let them go on long enough if you've been avoiding having that conversation or getting that project started or getting that project finished for long enough it'll take up so much real estate in your brain you'll be stressed out about it it causes all sorts of grief so we need to address things that we've been putting off with the four D's and the four D's can help us to accomplish the things or at least push them off long enough to get them out of our mental brain space and into a manageable situation so we can stop feeling anxiety about these things so what are the four D's well pick something right now that you've been avoiding and is causing you anxiety and think which one of these four am I going to do about it am I going to diminish it am I going to delay it am I going to delegate it or am I going to drop it are you going to diminish it diminish it means you're going to minimize whatever that thing is to a manageable task and just get it done today put it off your list get it off your mental list by making it really small are you going to delay it meaning you're going to take this whatever it is it's been stressing you out and put it out on your calendar or your to-do list to deal with a month from now because a lot of times we think all this should have been done last week last year 10 years ago I should have been doing this when really this it's not a huge deadline it's it's a fictitious deadline we've made it in our brain so we just need to take it off our mental load right now and get to it later that's delaying delegating that's writing out a specific process for getting this thing done that's stressing you out and giving it to someone who can do it over and over again consistently the right way so you can take it off your mental load number four the fourth D is just to drop it some things are just not worth the time energy and anxiety just throw it in the fire and never think about it again which one of the four D's do you need for the things that you've been avoiding think about it and apply it all right the second tool to deal with the anxiety in your life is preparation systems preparation systems help us minimize the predictable issues that come up repeatedly because here's the thing you're going into this week with food that needs to be prepped for lunch or dinner you've got meetings that are standing meetings you need to prepare for you've got reoccurring tasks you need to do for your job there are so many issues that become stressful to us just because we haven't thought about how we're going to do them or when exactly we're going to take care of them the anxiety is triggered not because we have a really big urgent task but because we're trying to jump between 10 different little tasks like Jack Russell terriers because we never planned ahead how we were going to get it all done so let's come up with some systems that predict the issues that are coming up for example your lunches do you have a plan for how you're going to do those this week that you can prepare a week ahead of time and now that comes off your mental load during the week you've got it figured out you just run the play where else can you apply systems and preparation to your week for those predictable issues that come up over and over again that way they don't become emergencies they are just taken care of in line as you go throughout your week that'll help you manage your anxiety and here's the last big idea the blast tool for dealing with anxiety and that's from going from a mindset of buried and behind to an overcoming achiever you need to switch who you are in your brain from buried in behind to I'm an overcoming achiever and you're probably thinking right now Joey like how do I do that that that's that's exactly why I'm watching this video I can't just switch my mindset I'm gonna say that you can and here's how you do it you focus on areas that you're competent in right now the reason you're feeling a lot of anxiety is because you're focusing on all the areas in which you're deficient you feel behind you feel less than if you can switch your focus from all the areas in which you're struggling to the areas that you're thriving all of a sudden you're going to open up a whole new mindset of you know what I'm not behind the eight ball always struggling can never figure things out I am climbing a mountain step over step getting to where I want to go yes taking hits along the way I'm feeling the wind blow me about but I'm moving forward these these events and these things that are triggering anxiety are not signals that I'm not good enough or that there's something wrong with me they're just obstacles to step over on my journey of being a high performer and it seems like a really small in sequence inconsequential switch but I'm telling you if you can just make this switch in your brain from feeling like you're behind and buried to an overcoming achiever you're gonna feel so much lighter you're gonna feel so much more empowered a lot of the anxiety is just going to melt away because you can remember who you are and the journey that you're on so make that switch in your brain today by focusing on what you're already doing well and watch your world change and I hope this video has been helpful for you in all areas and of overcoming Anxiety if you
